-- Thorens TD126 B (circa 1974 - 1976)
editor's notes: This TD126 B is an example of the early, 1st version TD126 Electronic. The "B" designation indicates that it came from the factory furnished as a motor unit and base -- but not with the tonearm. A complete TD126 with motor unit, base and tonearm would have the designation TD126 C. A TD126 C would also display three lighted push-buttons in front of the armboard to control the semi-automatic functions of that version. The 'B' unit, by comparison, rejects the idea of any automatic function and requires its owner to operate the turntable manually.
This unit, we see, is equipped with the SME 3009 Series II-improved tonearm, which had been newly introduced at the time. A separate armboard would need to be cut to properly locate the SME tonearm. A Thorens dealer at the time would have been able to provide these separate components at additional price to the customer. Or the customer could choose to buy the unit minus the arm and provide his own.
